What your skin is telling you: Location of Breakouts

There is a correlation between your internal organs and different zones of your face. This is the art of face mapping that estheticians usually do during your consultation before you are given a facial. I have learned that face mapping is very accurate in targeting internal and external causes of skin care issues.  Whenever I get a breakout I always refer to the chart to try and determine what the cause could be.

The Common Breakout Areas Are

1. Forehead: Digestive System Breakouts across the forehead tend to be hard clusters or more cystic-like. They are often caused by: stress, lack of sleep, and a poor diet. Keeping a calm mind-set and getting adequate amounts of sleep (7-8 hours) will help reduce forehead breakouts. Drinking less soda and carbonated beverages is another great step towards reducing acne in this region. Step up your water intake and eat raw fruits and vegetables. Also monitor your shampoo, conditioner, and any other hair products if youre getting breakouts along your hairline.

2. Above The Eyebrows: Immune System This area is directly correlated to your immune system. Breakouts will pop up here when youre sick or about to be sick. To help prevent from getting sick, drink lots of water and tea, and eats raw fruits and vegetables.

3. Between The Eyebrows: Liver Breakouts in this area can be caused from eating sugary and greasy processed foods, drinking alcohol, or food allergies and intolerances. Combat acne between your eyebrows to adopting a healthy diet, and be sure to cleanse your face after exercising.

4. Cheeks: Respiratory system This are is affected by smoking, air pollution, and stress. While air pollution is hard to avoid, it is essential to always cleanse your face twice a day to remove dirt and pollution build-up on the skin. Keeping your cell phone and pillow cases clean will also help reduce acne in this area.

5. Chin & Jaw: Hormones & Stomach These area tends to be very hormonal. Breakouts here usually occur around your menstrual cycle. Eat leafy greens, get plenty of sleep, and drink herbal teas. This area is the most difficult area to clear up. Getting your hormones checked for imbalances is a good idea if this is a persistent problem.
These common occurrences for breakouts can easily be fixed by taking care of your body properly.
  • Avoid junk food and fast food
  • Try to reduce the stress in your life
  • Eat healthy whole foods and fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Avoid touching your face
Remember just because you are experiencing breakouts doesnt mean it has to be a permanent thing. Taking care of your body is extremely important for achieving clear skin!
